About Us
Jennie&Akel We met about four years ago in Manzanillo, Mexico, whilst on a research survey with the University of Hawaii and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute. We both do a very similar job (Akel is much better at it though...) - specialising in acoustic geophysical instruments (sonars) as tools for mapping the seafloor.
We kept in constant touch despite there seeming to be little hope of seeing each other again. A couple of care packages were sent across the world, and Jennie was especially taken when she found that one of them contained a pot of sand from the Hawaiian North Shore beach that Akel most loved to surf off. Fortune and some benevolent fellow scientists meant that we went to sea again a year after first meeting, this time from Guam in the west of the Pacific. Jennie had planned to visit with Akel in Hawaii for a week at the end of the survey, but the week turned into a month... Jennie&Akel Diamond Head
Jennie&Akel Engagement After a lot of to-ing and fro-ing, including visits to each others families, vacations all over the place and a couple more research surveys together...Jennie finally managed to get some longer term contract work with the University of Hawaii (where Akel works), which meant that we would be able to spend longer than a few weeks together (and have cheaper phone bills - brilliant!). We gradually realised that we wanted to be together for always and Akel proposed to Jennie in April 2006, whilst half way up an Alpine mountain.

Since then it has been life as usual, in a slightly more hectic way ....to-ing and fro-ing and surveys (for Akel at least). Jennie graduates with her PhD in the middle of July (which means she'll never need to be a Mrs.!) Then we get to see you all before enbarking on our life together. Jennie's dress is a secret from Akel, as much as the honeymoon arrangements are a secret from Jennie, just as they should be! Jennie&Akel in Galapagos

We will live in Hawaii after our wedding, although the whole visa process has to be dealt with first. Akel is on a survey throughout September, so with any luck everything will work out for us to be together on Oahu from the end of September. We have no house yet (!) but as soon as we do you are always invited to stop by!!
